A Brief History And Modern Lifestyle

By Ted Hemminger

A brief history of tattoos indicate that these tattoos have meant many things through the years. What do tattoo designs mean today though, and why have these tattoos become so well-known in the United States? In earlier times tattoo designs could signify royalty, wealth, spiritual devotion, love, grieving, servant status, criminal status, and even elegance. Today these tattoos can mean the same exact things, plus much more. The global region also has a direct effect on the modern perspectives towards tattoos. In nations like India and the Philippines tattoos have been highly valued and liked.

In America and other North American countries tattoos are becoming very popular as a form of self expression. Most of these markings can be found in a very different range of subject matter and looks. Recently as 30-40 years ago in the USA tattoos were considered an indication of incarceration or a criminal way of living. Only prison inmates, bikers, and other people who were on the fringe of legal society used tattoos with pride. This has all changes and today tattoos are accepted as a way of self expression.

Younger generations are not aware of historical past of tattoos, or of the truth that these tattoos were deemed a proof of rebellion in the USA until not too far in the past. Today tattoos usually include hearts, flowers, insects including butterflies and ladybugs, creatures, mythical animals just like unicorns and dragons, and even more. Hearts with the word Mom is still a popular choice but there is much more available nowadays.

Contemporary tattoos can include a range of colors, while tattoos during the past usually only included a single colour. There are numerous specialists who are taught and knowledgeable in giving professional tattoos that will stand up well over time, and the cost is usually pretty affordable. The size, amount of detail, and colours desired will all play a role in the cost of a tattoo.

Indian henna tattoos, Chinese language tattoos, and other cultural tattooing habits are becoming more common in the United states these days. Instead of being a form of rebellion tattoos have become a symbol of uniqueness and personality.
